What happens to the document properties
Every PDF carries hidden properties — an author, a title, the software that made it, and sometimes the full path of the original file on someone's computer. When PDFs are merged, the combined document normally inherits all of that from the first file in the list.
That matters because merging is usually the last step before sending something on. If you have combined a payslip, an invoice and a scan, those properties belong to whoever produced them, not to you. They are stripped from the result here, so the file you send carries your pages and nothing else.
Why file order is yours to set
A file picker returns files in whatever order the operating system felt like — often alphabetical, which puts chapter-10.pdf before chapter-2.pdf. Tools that merge in that order produce a document that looks right until someone reads it.
The list above is the order the pages will appear in, and you can rearrange it before merging. Need to take a document apart instead? Use the PDF splitter, or turn images into a PDF first.
About Merge PDF
Put several PDFs together into one document. Drag them into the order you want before combining — the pages come out in exactly that order, not whatever order your file picker happened to return. The merged file is stripped of the author, title and producer details its sources carried, so a document you assembled from someone else's paperwork does not quietly travel with their name attached.
- Reorder files before merging — the output follows your order exactly
- Up to 20 PDFs and 500 pages in one go
- Author, title and producer metadata removed from the result
- Password-protected files are named and explained, not silently skipped
- No watermark on the output, ever
Frequently asked questions
- How do I merge PDF files?
- Choose the PDFs you want to combine, drag them into the order you want, and select Merge. The combined file downloads straight away.
- Does the order of the files matter?
- Yes, and it is yours to set. The pages appear in the order shown on screen, which you can rearrange before merging. Nothing is sorted by filename behind your back.
- Is there a watermark?
- No. The output is your pages and nothing else, on every plan including the free one.
- Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
- Not while it is protected — the password has to be removed first. If one of your files is locked, the tool tells you which one rather than failing without explanation.
- What happens to the document properties?
- They are removed. A merged PDF would otherwise inherit the author, title and producer of its first source file, which often means someone else's name and sometimes the original file path on their computer.
- How many PDFs can I combine at once?
- Up to 20 files, totalling no more than 500 pages and 100 MB. That covers the great majority of everyday merges without needing an account.
