How to write the pages you want

List single pages, ranges, or a mix of both. 2, 5-9, 14 is a valid request, and the pages arrive in exactly that order — so 3, 1 gives you page 3 followed by page 1, not the other way round.

Both ends can be left open. 12- means page 12 to the end, and -4 means the start through page 4, so you usually do not need to know how many pages the document has. A backwards range like 7-3 is rejected rather than quietly reversed, because it is far more often a typo than a real request.
